FotoMix – Free and easy to use photo editing application
Digital cameras can be found mostly anywhere nowadays. You can even find one on a low end mobile phone, but this does not mean that everyone can come up with high quality photos. It takes years to develop photography skills, but fortunately, there are many image processors available, which you can use to make your images look better or, why not, make it look like you are an astronaut or accompanied by celebrities. This is where FotoMix will help you. It is lighter than advanced editors, but it is also easier to use and it still offers a wide range of options. It lets you perform many actions, from fine adjustments to cutting your face and placing it on another person's body.
You will be pleased to know that FotoMix does not cost a dime. You can use it, without any restrictions or adds, for as long as you want to. You can install it like any lightweight application, on mostly any Windows version. The process will not take long, so you can start editing your pictures immediately.
When you are done installing the software, you can start enjoying its functionality. Judging by its interface, you would say that FotoMix is designed specifically for changing or modifying the background in your pictures, which is not entirely false. If you want to perform this task, all you have to do is go through the interface's different sections, in order to use the available options. First, you will have to select a background and a foreground image, in different sections. Besides images, you can also use transparent backgrounds, solid colors or gradients.
Once you load the second image, you will need to erase its background or anything that you do not want to keep in the final product. Instead of using a standard eraser tool, you will have to draw a mask around the subject. Alternatively, you may use a color eraser or fill eraser. When using the color eraser, you will have to use an eye-drop tool to select a color on the loaded image. You can then mark all colors that are close to the original, without affecting the people or objects which you want to keep. The fill eraser works the same way as a magic wand tool. An interesting feature is the possibility of adjusting the color tolerance, which works for both color and fill erasers.
The third page is where your images will be combined. The part which you do not erase, on the foreground image, will be placed on the background picture and you will be able to move and resize the foreground by clicking and dragging its corners. You can also use FotoMix for various image adjustments. When loading a background image, you can change its brightness, saturation and many other levels. It is possible to add effects filters as well, which can make your image look blurry, sharpened, like an oil painting or old paper and so on.
When the images are combined, you can use various options to blend the foreground image with the background. Furthermore, there is an entire section for final touches on your pictures combinations. It does not contain too many options, but you can use various brushes for color, tint, cloning and more.
Pros:
FotoMix features a simple, tabbed interface. Its options are well organized and you can use them for a variety of editing tasks. It is easy to install and use, it comes in various languages and it is absolutely free.
Cons:
The number of effects is a bit limited.
Even beginners can use the full potential of FotoMix. It offers numerous editing options and it is very easy to use.
